Trenton, ON, CN
Last six locks for the summer complete. We returned to Trenton, Trentport Marina, to take a break and get ready for the final casual, four-day push to Thousand Islands.
Locking today was good. Once we got to Lock 6 (we were counting down, from Lock 6 to Lock 1) and the lock tenders knew we were going to Trenton, every lock was ready for us with gates open. That shortened our day by about an hour. They told us that there was very little traffic going upstream but several boats going downstream, our direction.
We cannot say enough about the Parks Canada locking system. The people are what makes it great. Many college students with summer jobs and some older Parks Canada employees who just enjoy what they’re doing. All personable, like to chat, have great advice and take great pride in their locks. Almost every lock has a garden or flower patch of some sort. We saw some growing vegetables, others watering, weeding and everything else that needs to be done to take care of gardens. It’s a friendly competition and many boaters notice. We look forward to coming back to the system next summer.
We’re going to spend two nights in Trenton then on to Belleville for something new.
