Kingston, NY
Second day in Kingston NY and enjoyed the little town and all its history. Although it was another sweltering day, visited the Hudson River Maritime Museum located by the dock where we tied up, and then went in to the historic section of town for a brief history lesson.
Kingston was New York's first capital in 1777, and was burned by the British on October 16, 1777, after the Battle of Saratoga. In the 19th century, the city became an important transport hub after the discovery of natural cement in the region, and had both railroad and canal connections . Ok, not particularly sexy, and def not Netflix series worthy, but it has a proud history and we enjoyed our visits to the old Dutch Chapel, a bookstore housed in a building built during the 1700s and the amazing lunch in a Greek Bistro called Opa Gyros.
Made the most of the day and will be taking off tomorrow for Shady Harbor Marina in New Baltimore, NY, where we will stay for two nights to wait out the “log jam” of boats lined up to get through the locks that reopened today. We hope our strategy pays off.
The heat is suppose to break tonight - never thought we’d be so excited about a change in the weather - but we def are!!!!
