New Baltimore, NY
Pulled off the dock to gray skies but GLORIOUS 72 degree temps. Finally, we don’t have to run air conditioning!
Leaving Kingston harbor , we spotted what could be the retirement home of our dreams (see pics). It was the door knocker that sold me - and it comes with a canoe, AND a small runabout with an air conditioner! 👍 NICE! All we can do is hope it’s still for sale when we come back by in Sept. LOL
Go here to find the Nebo summary and track for the day.
The Hudson looks so different every day. Today we could see layers of the Catskill mountains off in the distance and the waterway was pretty tame. Nothing remarkable, until we pulled in to the Shady Harbor Marina. The current was so strong it kept pushing our bow off the dock and it took us a while to get tied up. Once we got tied up and plugged the electrical cord in, we noticed everything was running hot and after some troubleshooting determined the shore power voltage was high. We then had to disconnect and move to another slip with the correct electrical hook up, which required us to untie and re-dock once again. Oh great! This was a problem we had never encountered - so we learned something new.
Every marina is so different, and the water definitely has a mind of its own! Will is at the helm and manages the boat expertly - Ann is in charge of the lines, and although her overhand throw of the lines to the dock is getting better, sometimes it’s quite a challenge when the waters don’t cooperate. So far we have managed to not hit another boat or the dock ( fingers crossed ) so it’s all good😊. In the boating world they say docking is the #1 cause of divorce - as words slip out that you never thought you would say - so we keep that in perspective -
Shady Harbor is a very nice marina and is a Great Loop sponsor! It has a pool, sprawling green lawns, and a really nice restaurant that sits on the water’s edge with a huge outdoor dining area. It’s def nice to be out of the rain for the afternoon. We met quite a few people today also heading to Canada and so are getting all sorts of helpful advice on the fun and challenges that lie ahead.
For those of you wondering about Charlotte, this is her daily routine:
when we turn on the engines she heads for our state room and either curls up on our bed or crawls up in her bed on top of the closet and doesn’t move until we stop.
When we stop for the evening, she comes up to the salon, hangs out with us or goes out on the deck and lounges on one of our deck chairs.
She occasionally walks around the boat, or crawls up on the fly bridge and looks around
When we leave the boat for a walk or dinner out, we just leave her inside the boat with the door locked.
At all times when we are under way, and it’s hot, we run the generator and the a/c to ensure she is comfortable inside the cabin while she watches Love Island or Below Deck. She pretty much lives a life of leisure and seems happy. We still don’t know whether she can swim though, and although we have a lifejacket for her, she is not a big fan.
