Kingston, NY

Today was hotter than the hinges on the gates of hell….still not a break in sight. This section of the Hudson is very pretty, with many city parks on the shoreline, the Culinary Institute of America, old established mansions sharing the views with newer modern houses with large picture windows. We passed the Rondout Lighthouse while taking in a magnificent view of the Catskills in the distance.

We’re staying two nights on Hudson River Maritime Museum floating dock. Better know how to tie a clove hitch to a post cause there are no cleats. Flavorful dinner at Armadillo Tex-Mex, with very refreshing mojitos and palomas, a 10-minute walk from dock.

We’ve learned that several of the Erie Canal locks we need to go through have been closed due some electrical problems.  We also have some friends already at lock 16 and they have been rafted up to several other boats for four days waiting for a section of canal to open due to high water levels. This trip will definitely be about timing and some things we will able to control and sometimes we won’t - which will be part of the challenge..
