Return to the Campbellford Old Mill Park wall. We have decided to stay here for three days with power because of another round of smoke from northern Ontario forest fires. On our travel day from Hastings, the haze was particularly thick and reminded Will of living in Los Angeles during the 60’s. We could feel it in our eyes and clearly smell it. Having power lets us run our air conditioning and get some respite from the outside. When we stay on lock walls without power we have to rely on natural breezes, cool temps and no smoke to stay comfortable.

Old Mill Park is very popular for a family walk along the water, to walk dogs and to socialize. We had a couple of young boys with their parents stop to talk and the boys were very inquisitive so we gave them a boat tour. We also have some small bags of Skittles and boat stickers that we give to children at the locks and when we’re docked in public places which makes us popular. We always have questions about the boat’s name and about the big San Diego, CA on the stern as our hailing port. Anything to start a conversation.
