Young’s Point, ON, CN
When we passed Young’s Point while northbound, it looked like a nice place to spend a day. There is the Lockside Trading Company (with Kawartha Dairy ice cream) right on the lock wall, Young’s Point General Store with post office services, and the Lock 27 Tap & Grill.
There are also homes right on the lock wall and when a boat ties up, it is right in the backyard of those homes. We met Mort, the security monkey, who was parked on the pontoon boat in the slip about 10 feet off our swim platform. Every time I looked out of the window and saw him, he startled me as I thought a real person was hanging around our boat. His owner told me that he has, in the past, hooked up fishing line that he would pull to wave Mort’s arm while boaters were passing by. Funny.
There is a nice park at the Lock and plenty of people there to visit the lock, the Trading Company and get some ice cream. The view from the boat of the water, the trees and the activity was great. We are glad we stopped.
