For no reason other than we could, we liked Lock 22 so much that we just stayed another day. We were parked on the wall under a shade tree and the weather was wonderful. Ann made some wings in the air fryer, Charlotte took advantage of the shade and enjoyed some outside time, and we saw a black squirrel running around and hanging onto the tree to get a sip of water from the canal.

Will rode the electric bike into Peterborough, only five miles, to buy another fender which we figured we needed for the locks. We watched some radio control boating on the little lake that is above the lock, talked to some of the college students who work at the locks over the summer, not only working the locks but taking care of the grounds when there are no boats transiting the area. The lock keepers constantly communicate with the locks both above and below so they know when boats are coming their way. Because of this, we have hardly had to wait for a lock, the gates are normally open when we get there.

It was such a nice day, Will jumped on his mountain bike and rode the trail the other direction to Lakefield. It was a nice, but dusty, trail but good to get a little exercise off the boat.
