Finally, a beautiful day!!! Yesterday a cold front went through, lowered the temperatures, dried and cleared out the air. Woke up this morning to blue skies, a few white clouds, visibility unlimited and light winds. What a break from the last week.

We finally hit the Trent Severn Waterway, the first six locks and then stayed on the lower wall at Lock 7 under the shade of a huge willow tree. The Canadian lock attendants are spectacular. So friendly, pleasant, helpful. While you’re being raised in the lock that come over and shoot the bull, find out where you’re going and give you advice.

We had heard about lock keeper Janice’s gardens at Lock 7, and also the Kawartha Dairy ice cream at the Glen Ross General Store so we ventured to Lock 7. At Lock 5, lock keeper Rob told us to “tell Janice the flowers at Lock 5 are out of this world.” We did and Janice said, “Of course they are, this is a competition.” Rob also called ahead to make sure Janice knew we were coming so she would know she didn’t have to open the lock for us when we got there.

With the exception of one lock where Will just couldn’t get the boat twisted right, locking was easier than the Erie Canal. Once we got to lock 7, Will just had to help Janice with the manual operation of the lock gates. We relaxed in the cool shade, got some of that delicious ice cream, made some spaghetti for dinner and had a casual evening.

Go here to find the Nebo summary for the day. The track got messed up because of the locking so no good track today, instead just the Navionics Route.
