Hastings, ON, CN

After a fun and friendly filled two day stay, we left  Campbellford late because as is typical, we had to visit either a doctor or vet for some reason on a trip. This time it was for Charlotte, who developed an allergic reaction to something … both her eyes were red, and she was not her normal jovial, devil-may-care self. We were lucky enough to find a fabulous vet within walking distance to the boat who could see her first thing. We loaded her up in our wagon, hauled her up the hill, meowing all the way, and after a brief exam and an eyedrops prescription, we were off.

It was an uneventful day’s travel under beautiful blue sky to Hastings as we transited six locks, including another one of those flight locks where once the first lock is filled, the doors open and you move immediately into the next lock. We had to wait for a lock to two which is annoying but, all in all, easy day. At one of the lock, the lock keeper told Ann not to worry about the water coming over the top of the gate. We’re glad she told us because it would have been quite the surprise to see it coming over.

We stayed at the Hasting Village Marina where we met the neighbors and walked over to a local grill for dinner. We did see an interesting fish sculpture and some pretty flower gardens. Didn’t do much because tomorrow is going to be a long day.
