Brewerton, NY

We stayed four nights in Brewerton arriving on July 4th and leaving on July 8th.

Lots of miles to cover today between Utica and Brewerton and the July 4th crowd to boot. Pretty day, actually a little on the cool side.

We went through one lock that raised us then past Rome, NY which is about the highest point on the eastern Erie Canal. After Rome, we went through two down locks. It’s a bit disconcerting to be looking forward over the lock gates where the drop is over 20 feet. We played Frogger through Sylvan Beach with the pontoon boats (including one with an engine failure right in the middle of the channel), and jet skiers. Charlotte amazed us too because she parked it in a deck chair on the aft deck until we reached Lake Oneida with some wakes and waves.

As we approached Brewerton, several jet skiers found our wake for some jumping which is always funny.

Staying at a nice marina in Brewerton, Winter Harbor Marina. They have what appears to be a brand new fixed dock, very competent and engaging staff and the cheapest diesel fuel we’ve seen since 2016.

Once we got here we met a couple who went through the locks with us a couple of days ago. They are from Clayton, where we’re going in a couple of days. They joined us on the aft deck for some docktails and gave us some great advice on the Thousand Islands, Clayton, Kingston, ON, and Boldt Castle so we’re looking forward to the next few days for sure.

We’re planning on four nights in Brewerton so look for us in a couple of days.
