Amsterdam, NY
Off to a slow start this morning but the lush green hillsides on the Erie canal were so beautiful.
We took on three locks today, each about 15 feet high - a yawn compared to yesterday’s locks averaging 35 feet each. One of the locks had an empty flower pot built into the wall.
Arrived in Amsterdam, NY just in time to avoid a huge thunderstorm that rolled through - The town was not much to look at but the dock was interesting as we tied up along a city park wall, right behind another DeFever 44, just like ours but a few feet shorter. It was a lot of fun comparing boats with the owners - to see how similar and different they both were configured. When you are out on the loop you can easily get caught up in boat envy so you really have to keep it in check! I would trade the extra length of our boat any day for their king size bed though ….what a luxury.
To get off the boat u had to crawl up a steep ladder on the side of the dock wall - Will crawled it like a ninja- Ann just watched from the deck.
Leaving for St Johnsville in the morning. Bye Amsterdam - it’s been real!
